Nils Frahm – Australian Tour 2019

Nils Frahm – Australian Tour 2019

German composer and pianist Nils Frahm has today announced his return to Australia and New Zealand debut for late November-December 2019.

Nils Frahm also announces the release of Encores 3, out on 20 September 2019 — the third and final installment of his Encores series. The three EPs will be available as one full length release titled All Encores featuring 80 minutes of music on 18 October, to follow his masterful 2018 album All Melody.

Whilst Encores 1 focused on an acoustic pallet of sounds with solo piano and harmonium at the core, and Encores 2 explored more ambient landscapes, now Encores 3 sees Nils expand on the percussive and electronic elements in his work.

“The idea behind All Encores is one we had from before All Melody; to separate releases each with their own distinct musical style and theme, perhaps even as a triple album. But All Melody became larger than itself and took over any initial concepts. I think the idea of All Encores is like musical islands that compliment All Melody.”

The Berlin composer’s virtuosic and unconventional approach to music has earned him world-wide acclaim, combining classical and electronic music with an array of grand and electric pianos, vintage keyboards and synthesizers to deliver a live show described as “improvisatory, wild, [and] heartfelt” (Interview Magazine).

Lauded for his all-live improvisational spirit and open discourse with his audience, the 36-year-old composer has flourished from his Tschaikovski-schooled beginnings to embracing the minimalist tradition of classical greats (Steve Reich, Philip Glass), contemporaries (Max Richter, Ludovico Einaudi), and the boundless stagecraft of jazz legends (Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk).

Breathing new life into old traditions in the world’s iconic concert halls and underground clubs alike, Nils Frahm goes face-to-face with his unique collection of pianos, tape echo machines and synthesizers and the devoted following who demand his return after his extraordinary series of concerts in 2018.

“After I’ve played a good concert, people leave the room happy. This is something we can give back to the world. When people feel down and like it’s all going to shit, at least we can give them some music and change their attitude so people don’t think it’s all shit… That’s my religion.”
—Nils Frahm, quoted in The Quietus
