Icelandic musician, composer, multi-instrumentalist and producer Ólafur Arnalds, is proud to announce his debut Australian tour.
Having headlined Reykjavik’s Sonar Festival and emerging as an NPR favourite at SXSW earlier this year, Arnalds has now selected a special run of venues that allow his audiences to get up close to his music. With a deep emotional intensity, his live show is a genre defying experience blending soaring cinematic sounds, dark trip hop and ambient/electronica influences to create an intense and evocative musical language.
“Soaring string arrangements, masterfully minimal, poignant piano melodies and crunchy beat loops” FBi Radio
For Now I Am Winter, the first album to be released through Mercury Classics/Universal Music Australia, was recently named by Fairfax as one of the best albums of 2013 so far. His collaborative use of social media has involved fans submit their own fan art, music videos and remixes, most recently resulting in Australian Timothy Coghill winning the For Now I Am Winter – Remix competition (out now and released exclusively on Spotify). A Facebook milestone, over 100,000 likes, has been surpassed on Olafur’s page and every entrant to thecompetition will receive a free download of his fan-art book in celebration.
“…insanely beautiful “ rating 5/5 (I’d give it 6/5 if it were possible!) Yorkshire Times
Ólafur Arnalds has always enjoyed pushing boundaries with both his studio work and live-shows. Since the release of his debut album Eulogy for Evolution in 2007 he has built up a dedicated international following and is well established for his genre-crossing compositions. More recently Ólafur has been venturing into the world of films, writing his first Hollywood film score to Another Happy Day. He also had music in the hit film The Hunger Games, So You Think You Can Dance and the new thriller series Broadchurch, currently airing on ABC1, starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman..
Sometimes a recording will come along which possesses such vitality and strength of purpose that it forces one to look at contemporary music from altogether new perspectives.. “. . . striking, unique and original . . . rich and seductive soundscapes” Gramophone
