The Crusty Suitcase Band

This fresh group is comprised of old school instrumentation; horns and drums.

From Mexico, Cuba, Jamaica and Africa to India via Europe, horn and drum music has rocked the dance floors of the world long before the days of amplification. The Crusty Suitcase Band can keep a dancefloor moving with PA or without. C.S.B. are a powerhouse of brass music with global influences and a modern hip hop approach driving the arrangements.

The brainchild of Ben Walsh (The Bird, Pablo Percusso, Circle of Rhythm, Taikoz, Tom Tom Club) this outfit is driven by his trademark high energy drumming and also features his original compositions. Sydney’s Jazz impresario, Matt Ottignon is the other featured talent leading the horn section and playing, clarinet, flute, tenor and soprano saxophones.

Crusty Suitcase Band have collaborated with the circus group, Company 2, to deliver the show Scotch & Soda to celebrated and sold out seasons across the globe; Edinburgh Winter Festival, Sydney Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival and Summersalt to name a few.

"An awesome soundtrack of turn-of-the-century-gyspsy-junk-yard-jazz"
(Alex S. - Adelaide Review)

“They open up their kitbag of blues, afrofunk, reggae, klezmer, hip-hop and God-only-knows what else (Indian, Arabic & other influences are in the mix). It rocks. And, yes, you can dance to it. In fact, it'll take all your strength not to.” (Australian Stage)

“Musically, they were flawless but the most impressive element of the band’s performance was their characterisation. The living, circular- breathing, troupe brought so much colour and character to the stage that there was simply  never a dull moment.”  (Heckler)
